This happens reliably every time I attempt to use The local machine is called "drill", and is running Solaris 2.3 The remote machine is "ups", running SunOS 4.1.3 and the public domain ppp-1.3. Both systems are SS1+. ups currently has approx 6 ppp clients that work without a problem, all running the public domain ppp with no problems for nearly 12 months. Likewise we do not suspect any modem or uucp configuration problems. The exact sequence to generate the fault is to stop the ppp daemon using "/etc/init.d/asppp stop", then restart the PPP daemon using "/etc/init.d/asppp start". If this is not done then it fails to dial out straight away. I then queue some packets for the destination, eg "ping ups". The PPP daemon dials the remote system using the uucp dialling files and logs in. As soon as it sends the password the PPP daemon disconnects and the system panics. Core files are available.
