Description

AWF-CMS contains a flaw that allows a remote cross site scripting attack. This flaw exists because the application does not validate the "page" variable upon submission to multiple template scripts. This could allow a user to create a specially crafted URL that would execute arbitrary code in a user's browser within the trust relationship between the browser and the server, leading to a loss of integrity.

Classification

Location: Remote/Network Access Required
Attack Type: Input Manipulation
Impact: Loss of Integrity
Exploit: Exploit Rumored / Private
OSVDB: Web Related

Technical

The file 'account.html' as listed in the original disclosure does not exist in the original distribution. The AWF-CMS package uses Apache mod_rewrite in a way that make this vulnerability manifest itself in different scripts, depending on the configuration of the site. This requires the site have 'community' features such as registration, forum or lexicon enabled.

Solution

Upgrade to version 2.10-beta3 or higher, as it has been reported to fix this vulnerability. An upgrade is required as there are no known workarounds.
