Description

On May 14, 2002, the monkey.org distribution site for Dsniff, fragroute and fragrouter was compromised and the three software packages were modified to contain a backdoor. The 'configure' script for each package was changed to allow a remote attacker to gain remote access to the host running the compromised software.

Solution

Upgrade Dsniff to version 2.3, fragroute to version 1.2 and/or fragrouter to version 1.6 (2002-05-31) or higher, as it has been reported to fix this vulnerability. Note that this flaw was fixed in the 2002-05-31 release without a change in version number. An upgrade is required as there are no known workarounds.
